June Meeting

**********
The June meeting was held on June 12th at Meg's house.  In attendance were Mozelle, Diane P., Debbie, Sylvia with Holly, Estela, Sheila, Susan, Cyndi, Meg, and Marcia. Glynis joined us later for Show-and-Tell.

Marcia's refreshments included Meatloaf Muffins, mixed nuts, and cupcakes.  Meg provided mini-quiches.  All were delicious.

Business:  Meg gave a financial report which showed that we have a large amount to cover any expenses we may incur.  All were reminded of the dues.  It was decided that instead of Christmas in July we will make a day trip to Branson, stopping at quilt shops along the way. It is scheduled for July 12th, which is a Saturday.

Show-and-Tell:
 Marcia showed her Jelly Roll Race quilt from last month's program.  This is a donation quilt for someone in Vilonia.

This quilt was made from a tutorial at Missouri Star Quilt Co. and is called a Disappearing Pinwheel.
Marcia also showed a cover she had made for her tablet computer (not pictured.)

Sheila also showed a finished Jelly Roll Race 2 quilt, which has added squares in the design.

This pretty floral offset quilt has such cheery colors in it.

Sheila made two yellow and black quilts, both are quite striking.

And this gorgeous batik Jelly Roll Race quilt had us all "ooh-ing and aww-ing."

Cyndi showed  this great quilt with animal-themed blocks, with rick-rack edging.

Cyndi had this cute little sewing machine made of Legos by her nephew (I think.)  We all agreed it is a Bernina from the shape of it.

Cyndi made this lovely HST quilt edged in browns.  Very masculine-looking.

She finished her Jelly Roll Race quilt, too.  The kids' prints make it so colorful!

(Sorry for the formatting error here--I can't seem to fix it.)

This brightly colored Pinwheel Quilt (above) was done by Diane P., as was this pretty Jelly Roll Race quilt below.

The pretty Wizard of Oz quilt below is by Debbie.

Susan made this lovely Crayon Box Quilt for the family who are getting the current Habitat For Humanity house being built in Prairie Grove.

Glynis and family recently helped out in Vilonia after the tornado, and told of the family with two boys and a girl who lost everything made of fabric due to the fiberglass insulation debris.  The boys are big World Wrestling fans, so she and Meg (with the help of the Thursday Group) made two quilts for them, one with red and black borders, the other with blue and black borders.

The little girl likes purple and zebra-print, so Glynis made this quilt for her.

Meg showed two of Iris' quilts, since Iris could not attend.  The quilt below is quite inventive--is it a nine-patch?  a sixteen patch?  a twenty-five patch?  No one but Iris knows!

Iris also made this pretty quilt, which Meg refers to as a "Zipper" quilt.

Meg showed off some clever button flowers that her sister-in-law sent her. This was our project for the evening.  Everyone made a few of these flowers and put them in tiny flower pots and took home a pretty finished project.  These were simply made of buttons with floral wire run through them and twisted to make a stem.  It was fun and easy, and would make a great gift for a bazaar or party favor.

Our next meeting will be July 10th, hosted by Estela.

May Meeting

**********
The May meeting was held on May 8th at Marcia's house.  Present were Meg, Marcia, Estela, Susan, Cyndi, Sylvia, Debbie, and Sheila.  Cyndi and Sheila hosted, and brought yummy chicken salad sandwiches on croissants, and a very rich chocolate fudge cake. Thanks, ladies!

After visiting awhile, we had show-and-tell.

Marcia showed her finally-finished Thursday project, a Bow-Tie Quilt.

Susan made this lovely quilt in a pink-and-gray theme for a very lucky baby!

Then it was Estela's turn, and she brought several things she had made while she was in Texas.
She began with her Faith, Hope, and Love quilts, hand done with wool and wool felt.  They are lovely!

This bright quilt has inset circles.  We thought it looked like a representation of planets.

This gorgeous quilt is paper-pieced.  What a great wall-hanging for spring!

She made this quilt as a practice piece of curved piecing and free-motion embroidery.

This masterpiece has fusible applique and free-motion embroidery with thread-painting as well.

Then Cyndi showed off a photo of her new baby-- a treadle that she has wanted for quite awhile and finally found.  It is a Singer Sphinx in a parlor cabinet that is truly beautiful.

Sheila showed a sample of what would have been tonight's project, a really cute apron made from recycled jeans. Cyndi made one, also. Due to a few broken needles, they changed their minds about using it as our project.

Then we played a game of  "Guess that Quilting Acronym."  Most of them eluded us, but there were lots of laughs when Sheila revealed their true meanings! Then to start the project, the ones who got the most correct answers got to pick first from a batch of jelly rolls, and after everyone had one, Sheila explained that our project was to each make a small Jelly Roll Race Quilt from our chosen jelly roll.  She showed a similar quilt, called a Jelly Roll Race 2; and we were off to the races!

Although there are no photos of the finished quilt tops, they all turned out to be interesting in their own ways.  I'm sure we will see most of them enlarged, quilted, and bound before long, although some may becomes WISPs (works in slow progress.)

Meg reported that Glynis took several of our donation quilts to Vilonia to help the tornado victims.

The Thursday group has decided to postpone our road trip to Branson for a few weeks, due to scheduling conflicts.

The next meeting will be June 12th.

April Meeting

**********
We met at Meg's house on April 10th. Present were Mozelle, Cyndi with Olivia, Sheila, Sylvia, Debbie, Susan, Dolly with Charlie, Meg, and Marcia. We had some delicious muffins and peanuts provided by our hostesses, Sylvia and Debbie. After visiting for awhile, we had show-and-tell.
~~~
Mozelle showed her finished redwork quilt. She embroidered some of the blocks herself, but most were given to her already embroidered. Very nice sashing, too!
~~~
 Susan showed her very masculine Maze quilt. She's been working on this for awhile during the Thursday group meetings. Very graphic, and the colors work so well together.  It's hard to see what the block is, it blends so well.

She also showed this lovely quilt in autumn hues. Again, the block is hard to find.
~~~
No one else had anything to show, so we moved on to our project. Debbie and Sylvia provided kits to make these nifty organizers, which could be hung on the wall or a chair, or worn as an apron. They have lots of pockets for our sewing tools. Debbie instructed us on how to put them together.  The pattern came from Sew-It magazine. We each finished one to take home. Thank you, ladies!
Our next meeting will be Thursday, May 8th at Meg's.
March meeting
**********
The March meeting was held on Thursday the 13th at Meg's house.  In attendance were Meg, Marcia, Susan, Debbie, Sheila, Mozelle, Donna, and guests Mary Ellen, Tony, and baby Ruby.
All dues have been paid for this year.  Marcia shared a flyer for the Spring Fling Shop Hop to be held March 27, 28, and 29.  She also showed the premiere issue of Block magazine from the Missouri Star Quilt Co. Sheila showed a Hawaiian quilting book she brought home from her recent trip.
Show and Tell:
 Sheila showed her pretty red, white, and black quilt top.
 Debbie made several of these aprons for ladies at her church. Love the ruffle!
 Donna showed the afghan that Mary Ellen made for Ruby. Great crocheted hearts!
 Susan showed the center medallion she embroidered for a new quilt. Gorgeous as always!
 Susan also showed off her beautiful embroidery quilt--detail below.
Marcia showed her Periwinkle quilt,
while Meg showed a similar quilt made by their mother many years ago (not pictured.)
***********
Program:
     Susan presented instructions on how to make these darling bath mitts, which hold slivers of soap in a pocket closed with Velcro.  So simple, but with embroidery or applique they make a cute gift. She provided the washcloths and pieces of Velcro, and we took them home to finish.  Thanks, Susan!
The April meeting will be held April 10th. Debbie and Sylvia will host.
February Meeting
**********
The February meeting was held at Meg's house on Feb. 13.  In attendance were Meg, Marcia, Sylvia, and Debbie.  Meg provided a cheese and meat tray with crackers, pickles, and cookies.
All members are reminded that your yearly dues of $10 are due pronto!  Give Meg your money at your earliest opportunity.
Show and Tell:
Sylvia finished this donation quilt with orphan blocks, some of which were hand-pieced. She did a lovely job joining them, especially since they were different sizes.  She also brought 2 fleece blankets she had crocheted edges on.
 Debbie showed this ruler pocket, which could be worn as an apron or hung up to hold all kinds of supplies.
 She also showed off this lovely panel quilt with a School Days theme.
Meg showed three different versions of the same pattern.  The center of the block can be one piece or several, and the outer pieces can be the same color or varied.  All beautiful!
Marcia showed the finished quilt she made from the "Mother's BOM" blocks she has been passing out over the past few months. If you made these blocks, we would love to see the quilt as you made it.
**********
The program for the evening was making things from men's ties.  Meg had a large number of ties cut into usable lengths that she passed out for everyone to use.  She showed a table centerpiece, below. (Excuse the poor photo.)
Marcia brought the clock she made from ties, as well.
**********
From Marcia:
     I want to express my heartfelt thanks for all the caring thoughts and prayers during John's illness and after his death.  Having my quilting friends around has kept me going.  Thank you all so much.
